On which operating systems will Milestones software run?
Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, or later.

For use on Macintosh, you would need to run a Windows emulator, like Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion.

What are other system requirements?
Any computer which can run the above operating systems will be able to run Milestones software.

To access the tutorials inside the software, you will need a PDF reader installed on your computer. There is a free PDF reader available at get.adobe.com/reader

It is recommended that no monitor with less than 1280 pixels in the horizontal direction or less than 1024 pixels in the vertical direction be used. Using monitors with less resolution will result in some dialog boxes not displaying fully, making some buttons inaccessible. Using too large of a Windows Display Settings scale factor may also cause some dialogs to be too large for the screen.

How much disk space is required?
280 MB for Milestones Professional
119 MB for Milestones Simplicity
36 MB for the Milestones Viewer

Using Milestones Professional with Microsoft Project and other Office Applications
Microsoft Project is not required to be installed to use the Milestones Professional software. Microsoft Project is only required if you wish to import or export data from or to or refresh data from an MS Project file, MS Project Server file, or MS Project Online Professional. Milestones Professional officially supports Microsoft Project versions 2010 and newer (this includes Project 2010 / Project Server 2010, Project 2013 / Project Server 2013, Project 2016 / Project Server 2016, Project 2019 / Project Server 2019, and the version of Project desktop included with Office 365 and Project Online as of this writing).

Other Office applications that the Milestones Professional software interfaces with directly includes, but is not limited to, the desktop versions 2010 through 2019, including any version included with Office 365 of PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Internet Availability
Access to the Internet is not required for Milestones to be installed or to function. Certain user initiated optional functions within Milestones, such as some items in the Help menu, as well as other places in the program, will attempt to access the Internet either directly, or via a browser launch. If site policies or the firewall at your site prevent this, then a system administrator at your site may add Milestones to an exception list if you want the above features to operate. All of these Internet access features are optional and are not crucial to the functioning of the software. All of the above functions can also be done by directly accessing the KIDASA web site via a browser. Milestones never attempts to access the Internet on its own. All Internet access attempts are the result of the user requesting it via a menu or button press. The optional software update feature, available via the Milestones Help menu, is user initiated and will attempt to access TCP/IP port 80 or 443 in order to determine the latest available update. If these ports are blocked then the user can simply go to our web site and download whatever update is required. Note that Admin level access is always required to install either the Milestones program itself or any updates.

Mail Program
Access to your mail program or mail server is not required for Milestones to function. Certain features in Milestones, such as the ability to send Milestones files by clicking on the Send option in the File menu or by triggering an import or export of data from or to Outlook may require a system administrator at your site to alter settings within Outlook or to alter company policies regarding third party access to Outlook or email data. Milestones has no way of circumventing your own site mail or file access settings. Milestones files can easily be attached to an email message using the Attach File option in your email program, thus even if your site file or email access policies prevent the Send button from functioning you can still email schedules.

Registry Access
In order to install and run the Milestones software you must be able to read the part of the registry known as HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. This is where the registration information, entered at install time, as well the settings that tell Windows what file types that Milestones support are. Also, the information needed to enable Milestones to communicate with Microsoft Project is kept in this section of the Registry. You must have Read/Write access to the part of the Registry called HKEY_CURRENT_USER. This is where customization settings are kept, such as screen layout, custom filters, Project import/export settings. These settings are needed to be saved from session to session, thus they are kept in this part of the registry. The above access levels are considered normal by Windows and the needed access is the default on a Windows installation.

File System Access
Once installed, the software must be able to read files from the “Program Files\KIDASA” folder, the folder where Milestones is installed. File templates, program executables, and other needed files are installed there. By default, all users normally have at least Read level access to this folder. Users must have read/write access to the folders assigned to their accounts, such as their “Documents” folder. This is the default folder used to store files created by the software. The above access levels are considered normal by Windows and the needed access is the default on a Windows installation.

Development and Support
The Milestones software is created in, maintained in, sold from, and supported solely from the USA. The only user-visible portions of the software not originally created in the USA is the spell checker (originally from Canada) and the PDF creator software (from Germany), as well as any incidental computer library code included from Visual Studio when the executables are created. All KIDASA Software, Inc. products are TAA Compliant.
